When Should You Consider Going to the Chiropractor?

Many people swear by their chiropractor. Others swear they would never go to a chiropractor. Maybe we can help you understand more about chiropractic care.
Chiropractors are doctors. They attend a 4-year medical education program after receiving a bachelor's degree. Chiropractors use manipulation of the musculoskeletal system to treat pain and other various ailments. If you have an ailment in your musculoskeletal system, a chiropractor might have the answer for you.
The founder of chiropractic medicine, D.D. Palmer, viewed chiropractic as “the science of healing without drugs.” If you’re tired of taking drugs to deal with all of your medical issues, chiropractic care could be an alternative.
Consider visiting a chiropractor if you have any of the following symptoms:
Persistent joint or muscle pain. Do you have joint or muscle pain that won’t go away? This might be something that a chiropractor can help to alleviate. Joint and muscle pain can be a sign of misalignment of the musculoskeletal system.
It’s possible that a quick adjustment might provide more relief than a pill, rest, or surgery.
2. You spend most of your time sitting. Sitting is hard on your body. It compresses your spine, weakens your lower back, and leads to tightening of the hamstrings. You can throw your neck out of alignment after you’ve been craning your neck at a computer screen all day.
In this case, a chiropractor is potentially a much better option than a conventional doctor.
3. Shooting pain in your legs. This is a common sign of a pinched nerve or slipped disc. A skillful adjustment could possibly bring quick relief without expensive or risky surgical intervention.
4. Poor flexibility. Poor flexibility or range of motion in any part of your body is a sign that you should consider scheduling a visit with a chiropractor. Realigning your body’s joints can be helpful in this situation.
5. Inconsistent wear on soles of shoes. If the bottoms of your shoes don’t wear evenly, it can be a sign that hips or spine are out of alignment. This can become a serious issue if not addressed promptly.
6. Headaches. Headaches can have several potential causes. One of those is misalignment in the neck or spine. If you suffer from regular headaches, a visit to the chiropractor might be in order. Many people have experienced more migraine relief from the chiropractor than from their regular doctor.
7. Any discomfort that isn’t adequately helped by more conventional measures. This is just a short list of the ailments that a chiropractor can help with. If you’re uncertain whether a chiropractor can help with your medical issue, call a chiropractic office and ask a few questions. It never hurts to ask.
8. Back pain. Of course, back pain can often be treated by a chiropractor. Hopefully, by now you can see that a chiropractor can do a lot more than just help with your back pain! This is certainly the chiropractor’s bread and butter, though.
As with any other medical field, there are various skill and talent levels within the field of chiropractic. Not all surgeons are equally talented, and not all chiropractors are equally talented either. Finding the right chiropractor is half the battle.
Chiropractors should be viewed as specialists. They can’t help with every medical issue. In most states, chiropractors aren’t permitted to prescribe medication, and no states permit chiropractors to perform any surgical procedures.
However, there are times that chiropractic care should be given consideration. Drugs or surgery aren’t always the answer, and they’re rarely inexpensive. Consider a new treatment modality for what ails you. You might become one of those people that swears by their chiropractor.
